Micheil Merlin and I created Space is there… for the Second Life 6th Birthday party exhibition this year. The exhibition theme was “Virtual Worlds in the Future” and we decided to expand the concept of collapsing geography into space exploration.From the exhibition notes:
Second Life has been home to a number of builds that model for real world projects. Educators, business and researchers have all used the modelling capabilities of SL to seek and discover real life solutions to building projects all around the world.
But why stop there?Why not use virtual world technology to explore the possibilities of the stars and planets in the rest of our galaxy or the entire universe?
Just as Edmund Hillary climbed Mount Everest “because it was there”, our build invites you to climb space, into a solar system under construction in preparation for human habitation.
Space is there,
and we’re going to climb it,

Inspired by JFK’s famous quote, we invite you to climb in space and imagine all we can do there.
SL artist and composer, Kolor Fall, created some wonderful original pieces of music that we placed into the upper catwalks creating a magnificent effect of layered sound that enhanced the sense of majesty of the universe.
